Why are you so far away from me?

You are a little black domesticated cat
Who live in a small city in North Yorkshire
And I heard you on the TV
About one month ago
And I wanted to know
All about you and your travels
Your favorite fish and your penguin friends

Why are you so far away from me?
I need help and you're way across the sea
I would never steal you
I think it would be wrong
I've got your news clip
You've got my blog

I heard this story on Cats 101 which is a show, in case you were questioning it, for winners and NOT losers.
The town of Scarborough, North Yorkshire UK is famous for many things. It is the birth place of Ben Kingsly (allegedly), the subject of that song about plague and spices, the location of one of the more famous non-American UFO sightings (allegedly), and the place where that one hotel kind of...fell into the ocean in the 90's. It is also the home of Percy. Percy the cat.

Percy is a domesticated house cat. He has a home and a loving human family. He also has a favorite hobby. Percy likes to go to the Scarborough Sea Life Centre (ugh, British spelling.)

Almost every day, Percy leaves his home, walks by himself to the train station, waits for the whistle of the right train, boards, and rides it to the local Sea Life Centre. He gets off the train by himself, politely greeted but unbothered by the train conductors who all know him well, and he goes and watches the penguins in their zoo habitat. Percy is incredibly well behaved, employees of the zoo say he is even more well behaved than many of their human patrons. He doesn't watch the penguins or the fish in a noticeably threatening way, he is not acting as a predator. He simply seems engrossed in watching the penguins and other fishy things go about their sweet little day. Then he waits for the train, hops into one of the seats, and rides home.

Seriously.

This is so cute, I might have to end my life. My little heart just can't take it.

You're sooooo welcome. Let's start March off right.

  1. Thank you for that delightful snippet! I would now like to know how you feel about the cat who looks like Voldemort.

  2. This clip pales in comparison, but you'll probably like it anyway, especially if you think that this is what Ophelia could be if she was a more constructive, proactive, and sighted curmudgeon:

  3. I find it hard to believe this is true, but you have never told me a lie. I would like to see this spectacle for myself. Lets make it happen, now.
